Dance Performances in '09

Those of you who know me well, know I love to dance. Initially I did it as a hobby, then as part of exercise in the gym (as a matter of fact, it's the only form of 'sports' I ever indulge in!) back home.
I never danced to perform because dancing for fun and dancing for an audience are 2 different worlds apart.

When I came to RCSI, I got to experience that 'thrill' of performing for an audience. It is nerve wrecking I have to admit, but nonetheless, so ever worthwhile.

From International Nights to Chocolate Balls, I wanted to go all out this year seeing that it is my last year in RCSI. And although there may be chances to perform back in Penang, who knows whether we have the luxury of time then.

So in October, as part of the Dance Society, we performed for Diwali Night a.k.a Deepavali back home.

DIWALI NIGHT

It is my first time doing Indian Dance but from what I experienced, it is somewhat like Hip Hop only less body rolls and more booty shaking!

If I remember correctly, Students Union, PMCSA and Dance Society organized this small event. It usually is held in Damer Hall but somehow this year, it was scaled down and was held in one of the compounds in the college. So imagine a lot of people contained in a very small space.

Being one of the first few events of the start of the term, many of us attended this event. On the plus side, Indian food was served as well. I can't recall what they served because I was so nervous!
Reason being there were so so so many people, and secondly, I know that if I enjoy myself too much during the dance, I will space out and forget my steps!

They should honestly put performances first before food because I was starving!

I miss 'em Canadians!

Before we knew it, it was time to perform for the crowd who were literally 10 cms away from us!

When I say crowded I really mean crowded.

Spot me! ;p

It felt like only yesterday when we were at our senior's farewell in 2008. Little did we know it was time to bid farewell to ourselves!

I wasn't a 100% sure whether I would want to perform because I've never choreographed a dance my entire life (International Night was an exception coz I had Mandy's guidance) and the workload was starting to get hectic (Hemato-Lymphoid and Trop Med *groans*).

After much self debate, I finally decided to go ahead with only approximately a weeks worth of time left! At the meantime, Wan Lin and Hui Xin were busying themselves with their vocal performance practices. It was a lot of stress and sleepless nights, somewhat like an exam week. But with hardwork, we managed to give a decent performance, if I do say so myself!

The problem with performing is that you don't get the chance or the mood to go around taking that many pictures. But with Facebook, having your own camera is not a necessity these days.

It was our turn to go up on stage after Wan Lin. I don't have any good pictures in my camera, but to give you an idea, the four of us, Catherine, Joanne, Janet and I danced to 3 songs, featuring Vino, Mehul and Dr. Alice Mcgarvey as well. Fun times, that was.

As a closing act, we sang to Ain't No Mountain High Enough co-ordinated by Margaret, Lavi and Hui Xin. The song was stuck in my head for a pretty long time!

The 2nd Meds were unbelievably amazing. From the food, organization, to deco, it's hard to believe they pulled this successful event in 2 weeks!
They even had all PMC students' names printed in stars like the above.

CHOCOLATE BALL '09

Photobucket
This year's chocolate ball was scaled down because of last minute work. However, on the brighter side, the food was much better than last year's and the performances were more diverse.

We had awards given out this year, something like the Grammy's.
eg. The Snoozer Award, Mr. Punjabi, The Anatomy Award etc etc.

Blogging about all these now when I'm here in London actually makes me feel sad. I'll miss all the stage frights and the juggling between studies and practices. With fingers crossed, hopefully this did not affect my term results. =/

Ah well, I had my fair share of fun and I am enjoying my break right now.
Happy Chinese New Year & Happy Valentine's Day!
